As we were pulling up to our leper colony, I felt the excitement rising and wanted to just jump out of the car. It seemed like I have not been able to see my friends at the colony for so long and I could not wait to see Cusabu.
Cusabu is 3 years old, the cutest little Indian girl I have ever seen, and has become my best buddy at the leper colony. This little girl has completely wrapped her little hands around my heart and is in my arms from the moment we arrive to the very last moment when we leave to go home.
As my team and I were walking through the corridor of houses, my heart sank a little because her family was no where in site. Shortly after inquiring about them, we were told that two weeks prior, Cusabu had fallen down, hit her head on the ground, and has been going through extensive surgeries for two weeks. The whole leper colony and our team was deeply saddened by the news and we ended up visiting with her godfather, Amivesh, for over an hour.
Amivesh is the sweetest elderly man who suffers from severe leprosy, speaks very minimal english, and is almost completely blind.
We ended up crowding into his home, sitting with him just holding his hands, and listening to him talk. After a while, we asked if we could pr*y for him and Cusabu and by the end of our prayer, Amivesh was completely sobbing and repeating, “Oh my G*d, Cusabu, Oh my G*d.” We just sat with him, laid our arms around him wiping away his tears. By this time, every single girl in the room had tears streaming down our face and we began singing pra*se and worsh*p songs to our Father. Everyone in the room was completely bawling because of the heart wrenching situation, yet at the same time, lifting this event up to our father.
I can say without a doubt that His presence was with us that day in the leper colony. In that moment of fear, heartache, and sorrow, His presence filled the room with peace, comfort, joy, and rejoicing in our S*vior that is in control of every situation. I feel like that day I got to see a small glimpse into the heart of J*sus. My heart was so broken for Cusabu and her family that it was almost too much to bear. Yet, I know and can rest in the truth that He never gives us more than we can handle, He weeps along with us, He is a G*d that heals, He will never leave us, and that “in all things, G*d works for the good of those who love Him.”
I am very pleased to inform everyone, that we have had the opportunity to visit the leper colony again and Cusabu is coming home from the hospital. The girls on my team and I will be able to go and visit her tomorrow. I will definitely keep you all posted on how she is doing and would really appreciate any pr*yers for her and her family. Love to you all!
